About Us
Harmattan AI is at the forefront of developing autonomous and scalable defense systems for the next generation. With the recent successful closure of a $200 million Series B funding round, which has positioned our company at a valuation of $1.4 billion, we are actively expanding our team to deliver critical mission systems to allied forces.
Our operations are driven by our core values: creating technologies that have a tangible impact, striving for excellence across all our endeavors, setting ambitious objectives, and tackling the most complex technical challenges. We thrive in a challenging environment where meticulousness, ownership, and results are paramount.
Role
We are looking for a talented Aerodynamics Design Engineer to join our innovative team, focusing on the design of advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). You will serve as the technical cornerstone for our flight physics, converting mission parameters into optimized airframe designs. Your role will connect theoretical principles with practical hardware, collaborating closely with both the Mechanical and Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) teams to ensure our platforms achieve high performance, stability, and manufacturability.
Responsibilities
Conceptual Design & Architecture: Spearhead aerodynamic layouts for fixed-wing, multicopter, and eVTOL configurations, translating mission requirements (range, speed, payload) into precise technical specifications.
Multi-fidelity Analysis: Develop and implement a comprehensive range of numerical analysis methods, from rapid analytical and empirical techniques to high-fidelity CFD, including potential and/or panel methods.
End-to-End CFD Workflow: Manage the complete simulation process: geometry preparation, meshing, solver execution, and post-processing tasks.
Optimization: Utilize gradient-based or adjoint methods to enhance surfaces for drag reduction and optimal lift-to-drag ratios.
GNC & Flight Physics Support: Create high-fidelity aero-databases and stability derivatives to assist the GNC team with control law development and autopilot tuning.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph. D. in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in aircraft design, systems integration, subsonic aerodynamics, flight mechanics, and low-Reynolds number flows.
Design Sense: Demonstrated experience in aerodynamics and design, with a keen understanding of performance considerations.
