Role Overview: Application Engineer I (Lisbon) This role focuses on building and improving systems that drive Mollie’s products and services. Application Engineers at Mollie work closely with data, infrastructure, and product teams to create solutions that help customers manage payments and financial operations more efficiently. Main Responsibilities Design scalable systems: Architect and implement large-scale, data-driven systems for real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, fraud detection, and payment optimization. ML and AI infrastructure: Develop and maintain infrastructure to deploy and operate machine learning and AI models, supporting tasks like fraud detection and smart routing with high reliability. Product development: Build new features across Mollie’s products, such as payment method benchmarking, dynamic 3D Secure, and buyer intelligence, using data to create value. API and service design: Create and manage APIs and reusable services that help customers and internal teams make decisions and act quickly. Technical ownership: Lead technical projects from concept to delivery, upholding strong engineering standards throughout. Problem solving: Address complex challenges like anomaly detection and transforming transactional data into actionable insights, making financial processes smoother. What We’re Looking For Proactive mindset: Focus on delivering ongoing value to customers, balancing speed with quality. At least 2 years of experience developing large-scale applications, ideally with PHP or Java. Familiarity with Go, C#, or Python is a plus. Willingness to work in PHP or Java is important. Solid understanding of system design and architecture.
