What the Training Involves
As an Apprentice Materials Tester specializing in Metallurgical Engineering with a focus on Metallography, you will be responsible for gathering samples for quality control and preparing them for analysis or failure investigation. Through a variety of testing methods, you will determine various material properties such as hardness, strength, and ductility. You will also prepare materials for microscopic examination and conduct metallographic and physical investigations.
Training Process
Your training will typically last 3.5 years. One to two times a week, you will attend vocational school at Cuno Berufskolleg I in Hagen. Here, you will learn in both vocational and interdisciplinary areas, including materials technology, testing processes, English, business management, religious studies, sports, German, and politics. On the other weekdays, you will gain practical experience, beginning in the training workshop and laboratory during the first year, followed by placement in various departments and courses. The metallographic focus of your training will prepare you for activities in our materials laboratory after graduation.
