Assistant Controller – Construction Sector (Onsite)
 
Join a leading organization in the construction sector as an Assistant Controller, where you will play a critical role in our accounting team. This full-time position is located in Gaithersburg, MD, and is fully onsite. We are looking for a dedicated professional with a solid accounting background, proven experience in the construction industry, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
 
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare month-end journal entries, accruals, deferrals, and variance analysis.
- Maintain the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Reconcile cash accounts, balance sheet accounts, and subsidiary ledgers to the trial balance.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Track fixed assets and record depreciation accurately.
- Adjust inventory based on physical counts.
- Assist with oversight of Accounts Receivable and Payroll functions.
- Prepare journal entries related to employee benefit plans.
- Support audit preparation and documentation efforts.
- Review compliance with Sales and Use tax regulations.
- Contribute to the development and review of accounting policies and procedures.
- Analyze job cost reports and prepare tailored financial reports.
- Participate in special projects as directed by senior leadership.
 
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with specific experience in the construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial processes, and internal controls.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with Spectrum/Viewpoint accounting software is advantageous.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and adeptness in managing multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication skills combined with a positive attitude and a commitment to professional growth.
