Ready to challenge the boundaries of possibility?We are looking for candidates with:Extensive experience in flood forecasting modelling (Flood Modeller). Deep understanding of Environment Agency requirements, including the preparation of flood forecasting models compatible with their Incident Management Forecasting Systems. Proven expertise in applying and calibrating hydrological models for flood forecasting (e.g., Muskingum-Cunge, Probability Distribution Model). Strong analytical skills, with experience in processing and analyzing hydrometric data, including gauge rating reviews. A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related field. Robust GIS skills (QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or MapInfo). Practical experience with scripting (Python, Anaconda, Ruby, or similar) is a plus. You should also be self-driven with the capability to work autonomously when necessary, and possess excellent interpersonal skills to engage effectively with clients and team members.

We are seeking a Principal or Associate to enhance our expanding Water team. In this senior technical position, you will lead teams in delivering impactful real-time flood forecasting projects while contributing to the growth of our services in collaboration with the Environment Agency and other stakeholders.

Your primary focus will be on flood forecasting, with opportunities to engage in hydrology and non-real-time modelling projects as well.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and evaluating Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports, including assessing existing models and hydrometric data quality.
  • Developing, calibrating, and validating flood forecasting models (e.g., PDM, Flood Modeller).
  • Conducting non-real-time modelling and hydrological analysis utilizing tools such as Flood Modeller, ICM, HEC-RAS, MIKE 11, and FEH hydrological methods.
  • Producing and reviewing comprehensive technical reports, documenting model creation and associated uncertainties.
  • Leading and contributing to proposals for key clients.
  • Mentoring and supporting team members in their professional growth.
  • Building strong relationships with clients and colleagues across various disciplines.
  • Staying informed about relevant legislation and guidelines affecting our services.
  • Utilizing AECOM’s project management systems to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery of high-quality outputs.
