The Automation Machining Technician II will play a critical role in our ongoing transition towards fully automated machining processes for both new and existing product lines within our machine shop. Ideal candidates will possess robust Toolmaking and Manual Machinist skills, with proficiency in operating manual mills, lathes, and grinders, in addition to Haas CNC 3-axis milling machines. Responsibilities will include constructing and modifying production component tooling fixtures to facilitate automation in production.
Though primarily based in Newton, NJ, the role may occasionally require visits to other Thorlabs locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine new components and repair tooling fixtures to support CNC automation production.
- Monitor and inspect machined components to ensure accuracy against specified standards outlined in technical drawings.
- Maintain cleanliness in the work area, including performing preventative maintenance on CNC machinery.

Physical Demands:
This position may involve active work, including standing or sitting for extended periods, and repetitive tasks. The role may require exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally. Employees will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, and may encounter potentially hazardous chemicals or fumes, though proper ventilation systems are in place to mitigate any harmful effects. Work environments can occasionally be noisy.
