Role overview

The Autonomous Vehicle Test Operator (Day Shift) plays a key part in safely operating prototype autonomous vehicles in a range of real-world conditions. This position calls for steady attention to detail, reliable communication, and a strong focus on safety as Motional develops future transportation technology.

Main responsibilities

  • Drive prototype autonomous vehicles safely on public roads and test tracks in various settings.
  • Manage in-vehicle data recording: start and stop recordings, mark important data, and address minor technical issues as they arise.
  • Share clear and helpful feedback with engineering teams about how vehicles perform.
  • Correctly interpret and obey traffic signs and signals.
  • Communicate in English with public safety officials when necessary.
  • Stay updated on Motional’s operational guidelines and local traffic laws.
  • Arrive punctually, with valid driving credentials and ready for the shift.
  • Carry out thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure all vehicle systems are functioning.
  • Maintain the assigned vehicle and its components according to company expectations.
  • Complete accident and incident reports as required.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations, following company procedures.
  • Follow all safety policies and protocols at all times.
  • Provide quality service to passengers if the situation requires.
