About the job
Mindrift connects subject matter experts with project-based roles at major technology companies, focusing on the development and evaluation of AI systems. This freelance opportunity centers on computational chemistry and Python programming, supporting AI projects on a temporary, as-needed basis.
Role overview
As a Chemistry and Python Specialist, contributors tackle a range of project tasks, such as:
- Designing computational chemistry problems that mirror real research scenarios
- Creating problem sets that require Python solutions, often using libraries like NumPy, SciPy, and chemistry-specific packages
- Ensuring problems are complex enough to require computational approaches rather than manual solutions
- Developing challenges in areas including physical chemistry, quantum chemistry, and molecular modeling
- Basing problems on current research topics or practical chemistry applications
- Using Python to verify answers with standard computational chemistry techniques
- Documenting each problem and providing clear, correct solutions
Requirements
- Degree in Chemistry or a closely related field
- Proficiency in Python for numerical and computational tasks; experience with MATLAB, R, C, SQL, Numpy, Pandas, or SciPy is also considered
- At least 2 years of professional experience (applied, research, or teaching)
- Understanding of numerical methods in chemistry
- Familiarity with computational chemistry concepts and techniques
- Excellent written English skills (C1 level or higher)
Project details
This is a project-based, non-permanent position. Tasks typically require an estimated 10–20 hours per week during active project phases, though actual hours may vary depending on project needs.
