We are currently seeking a skilled Mid to Senior COBOL Developer and Solutions Architect to join our AI/ML team. This pivotal role involves bridging the gap between legacy COBOL systems and modern cloud-native architectures while working on-site in McLean, VA.
The ideal candidate will serve as a technical lead and translator, navigating through legacy codebases, modernization tools, and modern engineering teams to ensure accurate business logic extraction, successful code conversion, and validated operational outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Legacy System Analysis & Business Logic Extraction
- Evaluate COBOL, JCL, and DB2 components of legacy systems to comprehend existing business processes and data flows.
- Assist in reverse engineering efforts to extract and validate business rules, interfaces, and non-functional requirements.
- Collaborate with Government Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and sustainers to ensure functional accuracy and alignment with mission objectives.
Modernization & Solution Architecture
- Lead modernization initiatives utilizing AWS Transform, Reimagine, Kiro, and/or Blu Age as appropriate.
- Facilitate the forward engineering of modernized services (Java, C#, or Node.js) based on extracted business logic.
- Contribute to the development of cloud-native, microservices-based architectures in accordance with Department of War standards.
Integration, Testing & Validation
- Support the generation and execution of automated test cases to validate converted code against legacy outputs.
User Acceptance Testing (UAT) & Documentation
- Create clear technical documentation delineating legacy behaviors and modernized solutions.
- Assist in knowledge transfer to Government personnel to minimize long-term dependency on scarce COBOL expertise.
