Position Overview:
As a Composite Finishing Technician, you will play a crucial role in the meticulous final preparation and detailing of composite components. Your responsibilities will encompass scarf repairs, sanding, fairing, and preparing surfaces for painting or bonding. Collaborating closely with fellow technicians and engineers, you will ensure that each component adheres to rigorous cosmetic and dimensional standards. Your expertise will directly impact the structural integrity and aesthetic quality of our vessels.
Key Responsibilities:
Execute finishing operations on composite components, involving wet layup, filling, sanding, gelcoat spraying, and surface refinement.
Precisely mix and apply surface fillers and gelcoat according to established protocols.
Sculpt and smooth intricate contours while adhering to tolerance and quality standards.
Detect and rectify surface imperfections such as pinholes, delamination, and voids using tap testing methods.
Prepare components for painting, bonding, or assembly through appropriate surface treatments.
Adhere to detailed work instructions, schematics, and engineering specifications.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace; implement effective dust control measures.
Work in partnership with the quality assurance team to ensure finished products meet visual and dimensional standards.
Utilize a tablet to track procedures and time effectively.
Demonstrate proficiency in using Partallfilm #10 and patch aide for repair tasks.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in marine composite finishing, surfacing, or comparable hands-on fabrication roles.
Extensive knowledge of sanding tools, fairing materials, and manual finishing techniques.
Experience achieving Class A or near-Class A surface finishes is preferred but not mandatory.
Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to perform repetitive, fine-surface work with patience.
Familiarity with epoxy-based fillers, primers, and surface preparation chemicals.
Capacity to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions effectively.
