About the job

Saronic Technologies is at the forefront of transforming maritime autonomy, committed to crafting cutting-edge solutions that improve maritime operations through innovative autonomous and intelligent platforms.

Job Overview

The Composites Commodity Manager will spearhead the development and implementation of sourcing strategies for composite materials, components, and manufacturing processes that are vital for production and the introduction of new products. This role is crucial in ensuring supply chain stability, scalability, and cost management across composite structures, which include raw materials like resins and fibers, fabricated components, and outsourced manufacturing operations.

In a maritime defense setting, this position emphasizes the mitigation of supply risks, assurance of production capabilities, and the development of scalable supplier networks, prioritizing these aspects over short-term cost savings. The Composites Commodity Manager will collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Program teams to ensure that composite designs are underpinned by a robust and production-ready supply chain.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and execute strategic initiatives for sourcing composites, encompassing raw materials, fabricated structures, and specialized processes such as layup, curing, machining, and finishing.

  • Identify and alleviate sole-source risks while developing dual/multi-source strategies for critical components.

  • Lead sourcing initiatives, including supplier identification, issuing RFQs, conducting technical evaluations, and negotiating contracts.

  • Establish and oversee supplier capacity plans to facilitate production scaling and meet long-term demand.

  • Collaborate with Engineering and New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to ensure early supplier engagement and scalability validation prior to supplier selection.

  • Perform 48-hour NPI scalability assessments, in conjunction with SQE and Engineering, assessing:
    Production capabilities at specified rates
    Quality system maturity
    Lead time and capacity limitations
Compliance with ITAR and regulatory standards

  • Facilitate the transition from prototype to production, ensuring that suppliers meet established rate, quality, and cost benchmarks.

  • Manage supplier relationships and performance metrics, focusing on cost, delivery, quality, and responsiveness.

  • Conduct Supplier Business Reviews (SBRs) and lead continuous improvement initiatives with key composite suppliers.

  • Analyze market trends, material availability, and cost drivers (e.g., carbon fiber, resin systems) to inform sourcing strategies.
