About the job

Computational Geometry Engineer

Department: Engineering

About Atomic Industries

Atomic Industries is at the forefront of transforming manufacturing processes across various sectors including automotive, aerospace, medical devices, and packaging. Our innovative approach redefines how physical products are created, starting from molds and tooling to the final product. We aim to revolutionize traditional manufacturing methods that have historically been slow and reliant on specialized skills, reducing production timelines from weeks or months to mere days.

Located in the heart of Detroit, we merge the industrial heritage of America’s manufacturing base with the agility and technological prowess of Silicon Valley. Our AI-powered platform addresses complex challenges in geometry, process planning, and fabrication, allowing for rapid prototyping and production. Unlike typical software companies, we operate a fully functional factory that produces production-grade tooling weekly, facilitating quick feedback loops and iterative improvements.

Supported by leading investors, our mission is to enhance the speed, adaptability, and efficiency of the American manufacturing landscape, ultimately revitalizing the physical economy.

About the Role

As a Computational Geometry Engineer at Atomic Industries, your role will involve developing the software systems that convert raw part designs into manufacturable and simulation-ready 3D models. You will create tools for analyzing and manipulating complex geometric representations, ensuring they are capable of supporting fully automated design and production workflows.

This position is perfect for engineers passionate about the convergence of geometry, algorithms, and practical manufacturing applications.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement algorithms for B-rep, mesh, and NURBS data structures.

  • Develop tools for geometric healing, simplification, conversion, and maintaining constraints.

  • Establish high-performance geometry pipelines that work with simulation and process planning applications.

  • Engage with both open-source and proprietary geometry kernels (e.g., OpenCascade, Parasolid).

  • Create systems for feature extraction, topology classification, and manufacturability assessments.

  • Collaborate closely with product, simulation, and automation teams to integrate geometric logic into upstream processes.

What We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in computational geometry, CAD, CAM, or similar fields.

About Atomic Industries

Atomic Industries is pioneering the transformation of manufacturing across diverse sectors, integrating cutting-edge technology and traditional industrial expertise to create a more efficient, agile, and scalable manufacturing ecosystem. We are committed to revolutionizing how products are designed and produced, making the process faster and more efficient.
