Join our dynamic team as a Poetry and Creative Writing Instructor in our afterschool program at PS166! We are looking for a passionate and innovative individual who understands the transformative power of language and is eager to inspire K–5 students to articulate their thoughts and feelings through poetry, journaling, and storytelling.
Your Responsibilities:
- Facilitate engaging and interactive poetry and writing sessions designed for young learners.
- Motivate students to delve into rhyme, rhythm, and their unique voices, fostering self-confidence as writers.
- Develop imaginative writing prompts and conduct group sharing circles that promote self-expression.
- Guide students in creating poetry books, zines, or presentations to showcase their work to families.
- Work collaboratively with administrative staff and complete all necessary digital reporting tasks.
Who You Are:
- Previous experience working with elementary-aged students is preferred.
- A strong background in creative writing, poetry, or literature is essential.
- Experience mentoring or teaching children in writing is a plus.
- You possess a warm, encouraging demeanor and a wealth of creative ideas.
- You have a captivating classroom presence and the ability to inspire young writers.
Schedule:
- Days: Thursday & Friday (part-time availability)
- Time: 2:40 PM - 5:40 PM (split into two sessions: Early session 2:40 PM-4:20 PM and Late session 4:20 PM-5:40 PM)
- The program begins on September 4th, and we seek candidates who can commit for the entire 2025-26 school year.
