The Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown is looking for a Custodial Technician Shift Lead to help keep the facility clean, safe, and welcoming for all guests. This role works closely with the Senior Facilities Manager and leads the custodial team during assigned shifts. Schedules are flexible and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on Science Center attendance, events, and personal availability.
Role Overview
This position ensures the building is maintained to high standards and that visitors experience a safe, spotless environment. The Shift Lead guides the custodial team, handles daily operations, and responds quickly to any safety issues or facility needs.
Main Responsibilities
- Serve as Leader on Duty and act as the main point of contact for custodial staff during the shift.
- Train and mentor team members on daily tasks, safety procedures, and proper equipment use.
- Monitor team performance to ensure cleaning schedules are completed; report concerns to the Senior Facilities Manager.
- Give feedback and support to help maintain a positive, productive work environment.
- Clean floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
- Collect and dispose of trash according to guidelines.
- Service, clean, and restock restrooms as needed.
- Polish furniture and fixtures to keep them looking their best.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using approved cleaning materials.
- Dust furniture, walls, machinery, and equipment regularly.
- Mix water and detergents to prepare cleaning solutions as specified.
- Use steam cleaning or shampooing methods for carpets when required.
- Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors as needed.
- Follow established procedures for using chemical cleaners and equipment to prevent surface damage.
- Ensure building security by locking doors after hours and monitoring appliances to reduce hazards.
- Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies as necessary.
- Notify management of major repair needs or building system malfunctions.
- Communicate any safety concerns to management promptly.
