About the job

Paris | Fluent &

The e-commerce landscape is evolving rapidly, yet many independent brands find it challenging to compete with the logistics efficiency of industry leaders like Amazon. At Bigblue, we are committed to changing this narrative.
Our mission is to empower brands by democratizing top-tier operational excellence, enabling them to scale swiftly while ensuring a five-star customer experience.
Since our inception in 2018, we have developed a technology-driven logistics platform that serves over 500 brands, ranging from emerging direct-to-consumer (DTC) companies to renowned global entities like MUJI, Aigle, and Cabaïa. With a dedicated team of 110+ employees located in Paris, Madrid, and London, we utilize our proprietary WMS (Warehouse Management System) Atlas and maintain a network of 7 warehouses across Europe. Our focus is on tackling complex logistics challenges, making fulfillment processes faster, smarter, and more sustainable.
With strong backing of $20+ million in funding and the trust of the next generation of e-commerce trailblazers, we are on a rapid growth trajectory, targeting 10 million orders in 2024 as we aim for significant enterprise expansion. The journey ahead is ambitious, and we seek a partner to help us navigate this exciting path.

The Role of Data at Bigblue
At Bigblue, data generated within our warehouses informs every strategic decision. Each item picked, moved, or shipped provides real-time insights into our operations, highlighting areas for improvement. As our network expands across Europe, the data challenges we face become increasingly intriguing: optimizing storage solutions, streamlining operator routes, and enhancing overall warehouse productivity.

 Your Mission
As a Data Science Intern, you will contribute to enhancing warehouse efficiency and intelligence by developing optimization algorithms that have a direct impact on our daily operations.
Your primary focus will be on the order batching problem, determining the most efficient way to group customer orders to accelerate item picking while minimizing walking distances. You’ll design and evaluate intelligent batching algorithms that adhere to operational constraints, such as order characteristics (weight, volume) and priority levels (express vs. standard), all while ensuring they operate in real-time at scale.
During your internship, you will:
Investigate and benchmark various optimization methods
Develop and test algorithmic solutions using authentic warehouse data
Assess the impact of your solutions on critical metrics like picking time and walking distance
Your work will transform complex research problems into actionable solutions, playing a pivotal role in enhancing warehouse productivity, leading to quicker deliveries, reduced costs, and smoother operations for hundreds of brands.
