Ideal candidates will have: A degree in Data Science, Statistics, Environmental Science, or a related field. Experience with statistical programming languages (e.g., R, Python). Familiarity with ecological modeling and forest science. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

About the Role

We are on the lookout for a Data Scientist/Statistician to enhance our capacity for analyzing forest productivity and experimental data. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our team to refine our data processing and interpretation capabilities, significantly contributing to Funga’s vision.

We are seeking a pragmatic innovator who excels at transforming complex raw data into actionable insights. This position requires a blend of scientific rigor and a sense of urgency to amplify our impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive statistical analyses on experimental and observational forest data.
  • Assess and improve existing experimental designs through power analyses and the application of statistical models for multi-year trials.
  • Rapidly prototype and implement models that link forest productivity to soil microbiomes and environmental variables, considering spatial and temporal factors.
  • Refine our carbon accounting framework to integrate new field-collected, genomic, and remotely sensed data.
  • Create and validate methodologies for evaluating the utility of satellite and drone data in relation to on-the-ground measurements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across Growth, Applied Science, and others to ensure insights are effectively integrated into decision-making.
