About the Role

We are seeking an adept Database Support Engineer to become a vital member of our Support Team. Your mission will be to assist developers in overcoming intricate challenges, enhancing reliability, and maximizing the benefits of the Supabase platform. Collaboration with customers and our engineering team will be key in refining product quality and enhancing the overall developer experience through real-world insights.

This position is perfect for individuals who excel in asynchronous, fast-paced environments and are passionate about developing tools that can scale to millions of users.

Your Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Investigate and resolve advanced customer issues related to Postgres, Authentication, Row Level Security (RLS), Storage, Real-time functionalities, Edge Functions, and client libraries.
  • Offer consultative, proactive guidance to optimize workloads, sidestep common pitfalls, and provide tailored advice to our most advanced users.
  • Reproduce bugs, identify root causes, propose workarounds, and escalate issues to engineering with clear reproduction steps.
  • Craft insightful, targeted questions that transform incomplete reports into actionable cases.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with users at all levels, particularly during high-impact or time-sensitive situations.
  • Identify trends across support tickets and recommend enhancements to documentation, tools, and the product itself.
  • Mentor junior team members to elevate the overall quality of support.

You Might Be a Fit If You

  • Bring 6+ years of experience in technical support, backend engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or related fields.
  • Possess deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, including autovacuum behavior, WAL growth, long-running transactions, and table bloat.
  • Exhibit strong skills in high-performance SQL and query optimization.
  • Are comfortable troubleshooting complex configurations, including multi-tenant schema patterns.
  • Can debug edge functions and understand the behavior of distributed systems during complex failures.
  • Have experience with data migration challenges (pg_dump/restore, schema drift, failed migrations).
