Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, accompanied by ten (10) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. Possession of a Professional Engineer (P. E.) license or Architecture License. A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in design and/or project management. Certification in Lean Six Sigma. Accreditation as a Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Professional. Recent leadership experience in data center and mission-critical trade organizations. Substantial experience (12 years) in colocation and/or hyper-scale data center design management and engineering. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments with minimal supervision. Proven leadership abilities.

AECOM is on the lookout for a highly skilled and experienced Design Manager to join our team, offering the flexibility of remote work from any AECOM office across the U. S., with occasional travel as needed. The successful candidate will lead a variety of colocation and hyper-scale data center projects, guiding them from initial site evaluations and campus planning through to conceptual, schematic, and detailed design, as well as construction documents and administration. A strong background in either electrical or mechanical engineering and proven experience in managing the design of data centers are essential.

This role provides the flexibility of a remote working arrangement, with the potential for office-based work at various AECOM locations throughout the U. S.

While primarily remote, periodic travel for client meetings, key project milestones, and onsite collaboration may be required. Travel will be planned in advance and is expected to be infrequent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage data center due diligence and design teams, ensuring projects meet client specifications, deadlines, and quality standards. Design disciplines encompass architecture, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security, fire protection, ICT, and BMS/EPMS.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive project and program management plans across multiple sites.
  • Facilitate and participate in client and stakeholder meetings.
  • Proactively manage and communicate project changes both internally and to clients.
  • Identify potential issues early and devise innovative solutions.
  • Maintain regular communication with all stakeholders, providing updates and addressing outstanding concerns.
  • Prepare technical and financial proposals for new and existing data center design projects.
  • Build and sustain trusting relationships with client stakeholders and buyers.
