Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, along with a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalent combination of experience and education. Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. Professional Engineer (P. E.) or Architecture License. A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in design and/or project management. Lean Six Sigma Certification. Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Professional. Active or recent leadership role in data center and mission-critical trade organizations.12 years of experience in colocation and/or hyper-scale data center design management and engineering. Outstanding communication skills (both written and oral). Ability to thrive in dynamic, time-sensitive environments with minimal supervision. Strong team leadership capabilities.

AECOM is on the lookout for a highly skilled and seasoned Design Manager to join our dynamic team, based from any AECOM office with the option for remote work. This role entails leading a diverse range of colocation and hyper-scale data center projects, guiding the process from site due diligence and campus planning to conceptual, schematic, and detailed design, and through to construction documentation and administration. The perfect candidate will possess extensive experience in managing the design of colocation and hyper-scale data centers, an educational background in electrical or mechanical engineering, and exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

This position allows for a flexible remote work schedule and can be based from any AECOM office across the U. S.

While primarily remote, occasional travel may be necessary for client meetings, key project milestones, onsite collaborative sessions, or other critical business activities. Travel will be minimal and scheduled in advance, ensuring balance and flexibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead data center due diligence and design teams to deliver projects that align with client requirements, maintaining high standards of quality and timeliness. Design disciplines include architecture, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security, fire protection, ICT, and BMS/EPMS.
  • Establish and enforce comprehensive multi-site project and program management plans.
  • Facilitate and participate in meetings with clients and external stakeholders.
  • Proactively manage change throughout the project life cycle, ensuring clear communication within AECOM and with clients.
  • Identify potential issues early and devise innovative solutions.
  • Maintain proactive communication with all stakeholders to provide project updates and resolve outstanding issues.
  • Prepare technical and financial proposals for new and modifications to existing data center design projects.
  • Foster strong relationships with client stakeholders and buyers.
