Role Overview
SpaceX is building advanced technologies to support human life on Mars and beyond. The Starlink team aims to deliver high-speed, reliable internet to remote and underserved areas through the world’s most advanced satellite constellation.
The Device Physics Engineer for Solar Cells will play a central role in our high-volume silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cell fabrication facility in Bastrop, TX. This position focuses on maximizing cell efficiency and performance for applications in Starship, Starlink, AI Satellites, and deep-space missions.
What You Will Do
- Own cell efficiency across the full production process, from ingot growth through module fabrication.
- Collaborate with process and equipment engineers to improve cell performance and define wafer specifications.
- Design space-optimized cell architectures for demanding aerospace and satellite environments.
- Develop and implement rigorous metrology and reliability frameworks.
- Lead the implementation of new production processes in a greenfield solar cell facility.
- Oversee equipment and lab procurement, plant design and layout, and equipment commissioning and ramp-up.
- Develop process recipes and help build a skilled production team and environment.
