About the job

About Us

At Amidon Heavy Industries, we're pioneering the development of unmanned systems tailored for the offshore sector. Our innovative approach focuses on creating uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) capable of autonomously deploying tethered remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for the inspection of subsea pipelines, telecom cables, and various offshore infrastructures. Our mission is to provide dependable subsea awareness at a significantly reduced cost compared to traditional crewed vessels.

The Role
We are seeking a talented Electrical Systems Engineer to spearhead the design of electrical architecture and component selection for our marine vessels. You will play a crucial role in transforming an evolving prototype into a production-ready system by defining system-level electrical architecture, power and signal distribution, and a robust component strategy that ensures reliability and scalability. Your work will encompass propulsion, power distribution, sensors, networking, and autonomy hardware, requiring close collaboration with our mechanical, software, and operations teams.

This position is hands-on and emphasizes system design, trade studies, and validation, allowing you to influence the structure, components, and performance of the electrical systems in real-world applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the comprehensive electrical architecture for propulsion, energy storage, power distribution, control, and communication systems.
  • Establish system topologies, interfaces, and grounding/shielding strategies to guarantee safety, robustness, and maintainability.
  • Create block diagrams, power-tree diagrams, and system-level schematics to guide the design of PCBs, harnessing, and enclosures.
  • Define and monitor power budgets and current pathways across all subsystems, addressing worst-case and transient scenarios.
  • Set requirements and standards for harnessing, connectors, protection devices, and power conversion modules.
  • Lead the selection of components including power electronics, sensors, converters, controllers, and communication interfaces.
  • Assess vendors and components based on performance, reliability, environmental ratings, availability, cost, and lifecycle considerations.
  • Assist in validating architecture and component choices through analytical methods, bench testing, and on-water trials.
  • Collaborate intimately with software and mechanical engineers to ensure the architecture is practical, manufacturable, and maintainable.
