About the job
Join TerraFirma, where innovation meets construction. Founded by former SpaceX engineers and backed by Bain Capital Ventures, we're revolutionizing the way the world moves earth for construction projects through automation, making it quicker, more efficient, and safer.
Our Vision & Mission
At SpaceX, we were integral to the teams that built the largest rocket in history and launched the most expansive satellite constellation, providing connectivity to millions across the globe. We learned that infrastructure is paramount.
While at Starbase, we found that the most significant hurdle to launching missions to Mars wasn't the rocket itself, but the slow, costly, and complicated process of establishing the necessary infrastructure. We faced challenges in constructing buildings, roads, and utilities, which consumed far more time and resources than necessary.
From a fundamental standpoint, this inefficiency is unacceptable. It should not be so arduous or expensive to create the building blocks for progress. This realization led us to understand that the same engineering principles that enabled us to conquer space exploration and mass production could also be applied to infrastructure. By integrating simplification, iteration, acceleration, and automation into construction, we can initiate a new era of building.
Enhancing infrastructure catalyzes progress across all sectors, creating a self-sustaining engine to confront humanity's most pressing challenges. The innovations we forge on Earth will lay the foundation for technologies that will eventually support human settlement on Mars.
Role Overview
As an Electromechanical Engineer, you will design, prototype, and implement durable electromechanical systems that combine precision mechanical design with robust electrical components. Your responsibilities will include developing enclosures, actuators, linkages, and wiring harnesses suited for extreme conditions. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to swiftly prototype, test, and enhance systems for dependable performance in real-world applications.
Key Responsibilities
Design mechanical systems with enclosures, actuators, linkages, mounts, and custom brackets for remote operation of heavy machinery.
Rapidly prototype and iterate using 3D printing, CNC machining, and other in-house fabrication techniques.
Collaborate with internal engineering teams, vendors, and manufacturers to validate the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of designs.
Construct and test electromechanical assemblies designed to withstand vibration, impact, water, and dust ingress.
