THE ROLE
At VEG, we don’t just hire assistants; we nurture the next generation of emergency veterinary professionals. As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you will be integral to our team from day one, providing essential support, comforting pet owners, and gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment. You will be involved in every aspect of care—from triage to treatments, and the joyous tail wags that follow. Whether you're on the path to becoming a certified technician or exploring your passion for veterinary medicine, we are committed to supporting your growth at every turn.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcome and support patients, effectively triaging incoming cases and guiding them towards the necessary care.
- Assist in treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placements, and oxygen support.
- Collaborate with our credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians in administering anesthesia and monitoring sedation cases.
- Setup and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
- Support patient care throughout various settings, ensuring continuity from exam room to treatment areas.
- Participate in patient rounds to stay informed of the clinical picture and ensure seamless care.
- Learn CPR techniques and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
- Progress into advanced responsibilities, such as anesthesia management.
