About the Position
We are seeking a dynamic Engineering Manager to oversee our Compute Team, which is dedicated to managing the core compute platform that supports all backend services. This team plays a crucial role in maintaining the foundational systems essential for our infrastructure, applications, and automation.
In this pivotal role, you will blend leadership with technical expertise, mentoring a team of approximately 8 engineers. You will set strategic direction while remaining hands-on with production-quality code (around 50% of your time). This position is ideal for a technical leader capable of making informed decisions, guiding architectural design, and ensuring the delivery of scalable and reliable compute systems.
Your Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and cultivate a high-performing team of software engineers specializing in compute and platform engineering.
Drive architectural strategy for the compute platform with a focus on reliability, scalability, and enhancing developer experience.
Engage directly in the design, implementation, and optimization of core compute services such as orchestration, provisioning, scaling, and runtime environments.
Work in close collaboration with Infrastructure, Security, and Backend teams to define priorities and facilitate seamless integrations.
Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and provide technical coaching.
Promote a culture of ownership, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement within the team.
Translate strategic objectives into actionable plans, ensuring timely execution and delivery.
Shape the evolution of the platform through pragmatic and forward-thinking technical decisions.
Advocate for best practices in software development, automation, and operational excellence.
What We Are Looking For
A minimum of 7 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or engineering management role.
Strong proficiency in cloud platforms, particularly AWS (experience with EC2, ECS, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch is preferred).
Solid background in building distributed backend systems using Golang.
Demonstrated experience in infrastructure, platform engineering, compute orchestration, reliability, and observability.
Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, and service mesh technologies.
