We appreciate your interest in joining Oklo! We are on the lookout for a dedicated and detail-oriented Engineering Technician to enhance our mechanical prototyping team.

Position Overview

The Engineering Technician will collaborate with mechanical prototype engineers to create, assemble, test, and implement unique prototypes, tools, fixtures, and jigs. You will transform sketches and CAD designs into high-quality components, while ensuring a safe, clean, and organized workshop environment. Your responsibilities will encompass fabrication, assembly, test setup, instrumentation, and data collection.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Fabricating, assembling, and refining unique prototypes, tools, fixtures, and jigs using sketches, CAD, and verbal instructions.
  • Interpreting drawings, tolerances, and assembly notes.
  • Preparing stock materials through cutting, drilling, tapping, and fitting parts with common shop tools; operating basic machinery (saws, grinders, drills, manual mills/ lathes).
  • Performing light welding tasks (MIG/TIG preferred) and assisting experienced welders as necessary.
  • Setting up and executing mechanical tests (load, pressure, thermal, vibration, fit/function), including fixture construction and instrumentation.
  • Installing and calibrating sensors.
  • Collecting, recording, and organizing test data; documenting results with photographs and notes.
  • Troubleshooting assembly and testing issues; conducting root cause analysis and implementing effective fixes.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized workshop (5S experience is a plus); managing waste streams and enforcing PPE and safety protocols.
  • Conducting basic preventive maintenance on shop equipment; documenting issues and coordinating repairs.
  • Assisting with kit builds by gathering hardware and materials, labeling components, and maintaining build documentation.
  • Handling parts procurement by sourcing COTS hardware and materials, requesting quotes, placing orders, and tracking deliveries.
  • Receiving and inspecting incoming parts; verifying dimensions and finishes against specifications.
