Minimum Requirements:Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, with coursework prominently featuring Geotechnical Engineering. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam or the capability to complete it within six months following hiring. Willingness and ability to travel to project sites, both local and remote. A valid U. S. Driver’s License is required, and passing AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review is mandatory as a condition of employment. Demonstrated interest in dams and hydraulic structures. U. S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work. Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with relevant geotechnical engineering software such as GeoStudio and gINT. Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering. Relevant experience with dams or other hydraulic structures. Experience in field subsurface investigations and data collection.

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Entry-Level Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer to become a vital part of our East Region Dams Team. In this role, you will contribute to a diverse range of Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region. As a member of the ENR consistently ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm, you will have access to exciting opportunities for professional growth and advancement. This position will be based at the AECOM office in Germantown, Maryland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide essential technical support to dam project managers, including tasks related to design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and compliance with regulatory standards associated with various dam projects. Responsibilities encompass:
    • Planning, executing, and managing geotechnical subsurface exploration programs, including coordinating laboratory testing as needed.
    • Conducting dam analysis and design, focusing on material characterization, seepage, slope stability, settlement, and filter compatibility assessments.
    • Creating comprehensive geotechnical reports, boring logs, drawings, and specifications for dam undertakings.
    • Preparing and delivering technical presentations to internal project teams.
    • Conducting field observations and site visits for dam safety inspections and overseeing dam construction.
  • Develop into roles with increased responsibilities, including project and task management, along with obtaining professional engineering certification.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on various Dam Safety Engineering projects.
  • Exhibit flexibility and a willingness to travel part-time for project assignments as required.
