Role Overview:
In the capacity of a Telecommunications Technical Authority, you will be pivotal in a significant transformation initiative, aiding the transition from outdated PSTN/ISDN services to resilient, future-ready IP and SIP-based solutions.
This highly visible position entails acting as the technical authority across a complex, multi-site landscape. You will collaborate closely with delivery partners and stakeholders to analyze the existing environment, establish robust future-state architectures, and formulate structured migration strategies that uphold operational continuity and the integrity of safety-critical services.
Joining a collaborative and supportive team environment, you will work alongside seasoned professionals across infrastructure, security, and operations. This role offers a chance to influence telecommunications strategy on a large scale—implementing best practices, impacting design decisions, and ensuring that solutions are both effective and resilient.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and verify a comprehensive inventory of telephony assets across various sites, ensuring the accuracy of existing data while identifying any gaps or risks.
- Evaluate lifecycle status, supportability, and regulatory exposure across the estate, emphasizing operational and safety considerations.
- Define standardized IP/SIP-based architectures for operational telephony, safety systems, control room environments, and cloud-based solutions such as Teams.
- Align telecommunications designs with broader network, OT, cybersecurity, and resilience principles.
- Establish clear dial plans and numbering strategies to support future estate requirements.
- Design structured, site-specific migration roadmaps that align with investment plans and business priorities.
- Oversee transitions including ISDN to SIP migration, PSTN retirement, PBX replacement or consolidation, and DDI migration to cloud platforms.
- Produce detailed migration runbooks and fallback strategies to ensure service continuity.
- Act as the technical design authority, scrutinizing and challenging third-party designs to ensure alignment with best practices.
- Guarantee that quality of service, resilience, failover, and safety compliance are integrated into all solutions.
- Facilitate change delivery while maintaining availability of operational and safety-critical services.
- Generate clear and maintainable documentation for all processes.
