Role overview
This Lead Mechanical Engineer position focuses on robotic hand design for the Apollo humanoid platform in Austin, TX. The main goal: develop a dexterous, human-like robotic hand capable of complex manipulation in unpredictable environments. The work extends beyond typical end effectors, aiming for advanced, lifelike movement and nuanced interaction.
What you will do
- Lead the structural design and overall architecture of a robotic hand for a humanoid robot.
- Serve as the technical authority on hand structures, guiding the mechanical design of multi-degree-of-freedom (multi-DOF) systems.
- Balance strength, compliance, weight, and tactile feedback throughout the design process.
- Apply principles from biomechanics, precision engineering, and robotics to create a hand for versatile and safe interactions.
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to prepare Apollo for commercialization and mass production, emphasizing safety and scalability.
