LocationOn-site — Austin, TXEmployment TypeFull‑TimeJob TitleRobotics Engineer (Junior, Senior, Lead/Principal)Company OverviewJoin a pioneering startup, 9-mothers, focused on the development of cutting-edge autonomous machines for defense applications. Our flagship product is engineered to neutralize small and agile FPV suicide drones, akin to those utilized in contemporary conflict zones such as the Russia-Ukraine crisis. Our robots are designed with advanced perception and decision-making capabilities. If you are passionate about transforming innovative machine learning concepts into operational realities, this is the perfect opportunity for you.Currently, our primary focus is on defensive technologies, with the potential to expand our portfolio into offensive systems in the future.Position SummaryWe are in search of a highly skilled Robotics Engineer to become a vital member of our agile team. You will be responsible for designing and executing the control systems—essentially the “body”—of our interceptor platforms. Your contributions will be pivotal, as precise control theory is paramount for the effectiveness of high-speed maneuvers in combat scenarios. Proficiency in coding and experience with robotic components (actuators, controllers, computing systems, sensors, etc.) is essential.Essential DutiesDevelop and implement high-bandwidth control loops and sophisticated control algorithms (e.g., PID control) to guarantee vehicle stability and facilitate high-speed, accurate maneuvers amidst variable loads.Craft efficient, high-quality code (primarily in Rust, C, or C++) to manage actuators, motor drivers (via CAN bus), and sensors on a real-time operating system (RTOS).Integrate and process sensor data from cameras and IMUs (using techniques such as EKF/UKF) on embedded systems (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson) to ensure reliable, real-time state estimation.Serve as the final link in the autonomy chain, converting tracking outputs from the computer vision system into dependable motor commands that accurately guide the interceptor.Establish, develop, and maintain Python tools for calibration, logging, and CI/CD to ensure rapid iteration and deployment.RequirementsStrong understanding of control theory and embedded systems engineering.Experience in designing and implementing high-performance control systems.Proficiency in programming languages such as Rust, C, or C++.Familiarity with sensor integration and data fusion techniques.Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
