The Facilities Maintenance Operations (FMO) team at Harvard University provides comprehensive building and landscape maintenance, as well as custodial services to various university faculties and departments on a fee-for-service basis. Our operations adhere strictly to customer-defined standards, functioning as an in-house alternative to contractor services. FMO manages its operations under the same principles that govern successful maintenance service businesses.As a Millwright, you will play a crucial role in the installation, assembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. Your expertise will ensure that all equipment operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with both company and regulatory standards.Key Responsibilities:Install, assemble, and align industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical manuals.Inspect and test machinery to diagnose malfunctions.Dismantle and relocate machinery as needed for repairs or relocation.Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment.Replace defective components such as bearings, gears, shafts, and motors.Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring instruments.Align equipment using laser alignment and other precision techniques.Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.Collaborate effectively with electricians, engineers, and other maintenance personnel.Additional Responsibilities:Fabricate parts such as shafts, bearings, and supports.Modify and rebuild equipment for optimal performance.Erect and align equipment such as fans, pumps, and conveyors.Fabricate specialty items for other trades.Inspect and repair condensate meters; update relevant prints and records as necessary.Wear safety equipment and clothing as required.Maintain a clean, neat uniform to uphold a professional image at all times.Working Conditions:Emergency Status Designation: Critical Operations Personnel (required to provide on-site support during emergency situations as determined by management).Physical Requirements:Ability to bend, reach, and hold awkward positions for extended periods.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and collaborate with others to lift equipment exceeding 300 lbs.Must be able to push and pull heavy loads as specified above.Regularly work from ladders, platforms, high places, and in cramped spaces.Considerable climbing, walking, and stooping required.
