Role overview This specialist leads the Safety Management System (SMS), manages incident investigations, and partners closely with teams across Operations, Facilities, and company leadership. As the EHS subject matter expert, the role shapes strategies, influences safe behaviors, and implements processes that reduce risk and support organizational growth. Core responsibilities Advance the Safety Management System (SMS) through program development, documentation, and execution. Conduct detailed safety audits, risk assessments, and facility inspections; identify trends and implement corrective and preventive actions. Lead investigations of workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries; perform root cause analyses and ensure follow-through on corrective actions. Manage OSHA recordkeeping (300, 300A, 301) and ensure accurate, compliant regulatory reporting. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including hazardous waste management and reporting. Oversee hazardous materials protocols: labeling, storage, handling, and disposal. Design and deliver EHS training such as new hire orientation, regulatory topics, and leadership safety initiatives. Lead emergency preparedness and response initiatives, including drills, risk planning, and business continuity efforts. Work with Facilities and Operations to proactively address safety risks related to equipment, infrastructure, and processes. Serve as the main contact for internal and external EHS audits, inspections, and regulatory agencies. Analyze safety metrics and KPIs; share insights and recommendations with leadership to improve performance. Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and maintain the chemical inventory system. Oversee environmental permits and ensure timely, accurate reporting. Promote employee engagement initiatives to strengthen safety culture and accountability. Mentor and support junior EHS staff or site coordinators as needed.
