In the role of Lead Power Systems Technology Engineer, you will operate under the general supervision of the Director, spearheading intricate engineering projects and assignments. You will serve as a subject matter expert in the design, engineering, and testing of market software, including Real-Time and Day-Ahead Market Applications, State Estimator (SE), Real-Time Contingency Analysis (RTCA), Dispatcher Load Flow, Voltage Stability Application (VSA), and Dynamic Stability Application (DSA) software. Your proactive approach will enable you to foresee, identify, and resolve engineering-related challenges, while also coordinating software modifications with internal departments and external vendors. Additionally, you will provide technical expertise and business rule support to various departments and external entities concerning reliability coordination and market operations. Your leadership will extend to various customer initiatives, including but not limited to the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM), Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM), and Reliability Coordination (RC).Key Responsibilities:Oversee functional testing of existing applications and newly added features in the Day-Ahead/Real-Time Market, Market Quality Solutions, and Transmission Network Applications.Provide operational support across day-ahead, hour-ahead, and real-time desks while offering training and guidance to on-call staff.Proactively identify and troubleshoot engineering-related issues, leveraging your knowledge of policy issues and related matters.Maintain current applications, analyze system errors from various perspectives, and collaborate with team members to identify root causes.Enhance, improve, and support Day-Ahead Market (DAM), Real-Time Market, and Market Quality Services (MQS) applications.Lead the design, testing, and documentation of user training and associated activities as needed.

In this role, you will work under the guidance of the Manager to assist in developing power system forecasts for the California ISO and EIM system loads. Your responsibilities will include renewable resource forecasting, addressing uncertainty requirements, and analyzing ancillary services. You will interpret Numerical Weather Prediction Models to align forecasted data with the daily operational needs of the ISO/EIM, ensuring accurate renewable and load forecasting. Additionally, you will contribute to enhancing data collection and neural network modeling aimed at continuous improvement of forecasting accuracy at the ISO. You will also be responsible for tracking and registering new variable energy resources to streamline their onboarding process and will coordinate projects related to forecast accuracy testing and analysis.Key Responsibilities:Utilize statistical methods to gather and organize load, weather, and renewable resource data, interpreting various meteorological data to create critical short- and medium-range forecasts for the Bulk Electric System. Validate and enhance the accuracy of forecasts related to daily load, wind, solar, and distributed resources.Monitor and analyze forecasting results, including performance metrics and efficiency, while identifying emerging trends in forecast data. Engage in root cause analysis for forecast design gaps and provide analytical support to internal and external stakeholders.Optimize data collection procedures for demand, energy, weather, and economic data by analyzing historical and forecasted electric demand and generation trends. Maintain and analyze comprehensive databases containing pertinent data.Collaborate with senior staff to develop hypotheses aimed at improving the accuracy of load, renewable, and uncertainty forecasts. Leverage software to retrain neural network models and analyze the outcomes of various forecasting methods.
