About the job
About Neuralink:
At Neuralink, we are pioneering the development of groundbreaking devices that create a bi-directional interface with the brain. Our mission is to restore movement to those who are paralyzed, bring sight to the visually impaired, and transform human interaction with the digital landscape.
Team Overview:
The BCI Applications Team is dedicated to developing Telepathy.app, an innovative software platform that empowers individuals with paralysis to interact with computing devices using only their thoughts. Our team encompasses a diverse set of disciplines, including neuroscience, machine learning, software engineering, and interface design.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate Design Engineer Intern to conceptualize, prototype, and deliver cutting-edge computing interfaces specifically designed for Brain-Computer Interaction (BCI). The ideal candidate will exhibit the following attributes:
- A deep curiosity for exploring a multi-disciplinary environment where design decisions are influenced by neural architecture, model specifications, and radio bandwidth constraints. For example, minor adjustments in an animated spring coefficient can significantly affect perceptual response time, which in turn impacts label alignment and decoder performance. You will collaborate closely with both internal and external experts to navigate these constraints creatively.
- An intuitive understanding of the appropriate level of fidelity needed at various stages of development, whether it’s engaging in discussions, creating rough sketches, or developing testable prototypes.
- An eagerness to innovate within a completely new medium of interaction that lacks traditional sensory feedback associated with existing physical input devices.
- The ability to empathize with users whose sensory experiences differ from your own, alongside a commitment to crafting an experience that transcends mere functionality. You will strive to achieve fluidity and detail in user interactions, whether it involves optimizing a vertex shader or developing a custom property animator.
- A strong perspective that encourages open discussions, allowing for the exploration of unconventional ideas while remaining open to testing and learning from concepts that don’t succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, prototype, construct, and launch innovative computing interfaces for BCI applications.
- Engage with study participants to...
