Position Overview
As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality, capability, and reliability of our lithium-ion battery cell and component suppliers. This position requires a deep collaboration with internal engineering and quality teams, as well as external supplier partners, to design, implement, and uphold top-tier manufacturing processes and quality systems.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier Quality and Process Development
- Lead the selection, qualification, and ongoing improvement of suppliers for new battery cell chemistries and components.
- Conduct comprehensive on-site audits at supplier facilities to evaluate manufacturing processes, quality management systems, and technical capacities.
- Direct the creation and approval of APQP/PPAP (Advanced Product Quality Planning / Production Part Approval Process) packages to ensure components adhere to rigorous standards.
- Execute continuous improvement initiatives at supplier sites, employing methodologies like Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
Industrialization
- Lead capacity analysis efforts to engage in detailed, collaborative studies with key suppliers to identify operational bottlenecks, assess utilization, and develop strategic scaling plans.
- Validate long-term capacity expansion strategies to ensure they align with demand forecasts, technology advancements, and quality standards.
- Oversee the scale-up and qualification processes of manufacturing, monitoring pilot runs, managing successful ramp-ups, and confirming quality metrics prior to mass production.
- Formulate and implement robust risk mitigation strategies for manufacturing with suppliers.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate closely with Design Engineering to influence product design for manufacturability (DFM) and quality aspects.
- Act as the primary technical link between Amprius and supplier engineering and quality teams.
- Facilitate joint problem-solving sessions utilizing the 8D methodology to promptly and effectively resolve quality issues.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on supplier performance, risk evaluations, and development progress to internal stakeholders.
