MATERIAL FLOW ENGINEER
We are on the lookout for a skilled Material Flow Engineer who will play a crucial role in analyzing, designing, and optimizing the receiving, storage, movement, and presentation of materials across all flight and non-flight programs, all aimed at supporting our Starship goals.
This position involves developing and executing material flow strategies that align with our production objectives and promote operational excellence. Leveraging lean material flow principles, data analytics, problem-solving techniques, modeling, and project management skills, you will ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of materials.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process Design and Optimization: Create and implement innovative strategies for efficient material flow from receipt to lineside, including any necessary reverse logistics. Understand critical part flow categories to devise specific plans that allow Starbase to scale effectively. Utilize value stream mapping for comprehensive process optimization.
- Factory and Warehouse Layout Planning: Design and execute conceptual and detailed layouts for material flow and storage to meet targeted inventory levels. Ensure that storage strategies are aligned throughout the supply chain to achieve optimal part density, considering all available facility volume. Build and utilize space capacity models to guarantee sufficient storage solutions.
- Develop Materials Management Resource Plans: Employ lean material flow principles and industry best practices to create labor and equipment models that correspond with material flow strategies. Conduct time studies as necessary to assess resource efficiency and implement procedures to monitor improvements. Ensure all material handling equipment is optimized for the supporting processes.
- Part Packaging and Rack Flow: Design cost-effective and sustainable packaging solutions for use between vendors and SpaceX, as well as within Starbase facilities. Ensure that packaging optimizes total landed costs by taking logistics density and handling efficiency into account, while adhering to required quality standards. Collaborate with external packaging and tooling vendors, along with internal teams, to ensure timely development of appropriately sized packaging fleets.
