Role overview The Perception Engineer will contribute to building an AI-powered autonomy stack for environments where GPS and other sensors may be unreliable. This position focuses on designing, training, and deploying advanced vision and multi-sensor perception systems that support navigation, targeting, and automatic target recognition across Mach Industries’ products. The work involves moving research-grade algorithms into practical, real-world applications using deep learning, computer vision, and embedded systems expertise. What you will do Design and improve detection, segmentation, and tracking models (CNN/Transformer) for EO/IR and multi-spectral imagery, working with large-scale datasets and challenging conditions. Build training and evaluation pipelines, including PR/ROC, mAP, latency, and robustness suites; maintain regression testing and model updates based on field data. Optimize models for real-time embedded inference (quantization, pruning, TensorRT, ONNX Runtime), profile CPU/GPU performance, and meet throughput and latency targets on Jetson-class hardware. Integrate vision outputs with other sensing technologies such as radar, LiDAR, and RF cues, supporting confirmatory processes, association, and track management through decision-level fusion. Develop tools for visualization, triage, and root-cause analysis to extract insights from simulations, HITL, and flight logs; create test plans in collaboration with hardware and flight teams. Monitor health metrics, detect drift, manage graceful degradation, and maintain thorough documentation and tests aligned with performance standards. Location This role is based in Huntington Beach.
