POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Professional Development Specialist is a key advocate and facilitator for statewide teacher professional development initiatives. This role involves designing, implementing, and assessing engaging, research-based professional learning opportunities in computer science for P-12 educators across various career stages. The Specialist will promote a collaborative statewide learning community, enhance teacher development through tailored coaching and mentoring, and drive innovative instructional practices.
This position is offered as a one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Professional Development Services:
- Develop, conduct, and assess both in-person and online workshops, curriculum institutes, and professional learning communities focused on computer science for K-12 and higher education educators.
- Facilitate interactive training sessions that cover effective computing pedagogy, curriculum integration, equity strategies, and the latest educational technologies.
- Provide continuous mentoring and support for teachers to ensure sustained instructional improvement.
- Oversee the execution of MCCE workshops and initiatives tailored for Maryland K-12 districts, administrators, facilitators, and higher education faculty.
- Coordinate event logistics including venue arrangements, registration processes, accommodations, and resource allocation.
- Deliver additional support to enhance the effectiveness of meetings, workshops, and conferences.
Technical Management (Canvas LMS):
- Administer user accounts, roles, and permissions; manage course access and provisioning for MCCE and P-20 accounts.
- Set up academic terms, create course shells, and support content management.
- Act as the primary contact for Canvas-related inquiries, offering timely assistance and updates regarding system features and maintenance.
- Develop user guides, FAQs, and tutorials; conduct training sessions for facilitators and participants.
- Advise on course setup, content organization, and accessibility compliance (WCAG/ADA).
- Align the Canvas interface with MCCE/P-20 branding and manage shared resources.
- Generate reports on user engagement and enrollment trends.
