About the job
Waymo is an industry leader in autonomous driving technology, dedicated to becoming the world's most reliable driver. Originating from the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, our focus has been on developing the Waymo Driver, The World’s Most Experienced Driver™, which enhances mobility access and aims to significantly reduce fatalities caused by traffic accidents. The Waymo Driver is the backbone of our fully autonomous ride-hailing service and can be integrated across various vehicle platforms and applications. With over ten million rider-only trips completed and an extensive driving record of more than 100 million miles on public roads, complemented by tens of billions of miles in simulation across 15+ U. S. states, we are paving the way for safer transportation.
The Software Quality Operations (SWQOps) team is integral to our mission, facilitating the safe and efficient expansion into new international markets while developing workflows critical to our operations. Our goal is to create a dynamic and scalable operation, increasingly driven by AI, to provide essential insights for the confident deployment and growth of Waymo's autonomous vehicle services.
Why Our Team is Vital to Waymo's Success:
As Waymo experiences unprecedented growth, expanding into approximately 20 new cities by the end of 2026, including international markets such as London and Tokyo, the SWQOps team, particularly our Technical Specialists, play a pivotal role in ensuring this expansion is safe and efficient. Key responsibilities include:
- International Rollout & New Market Preparedness: Actively updating triage policies and establishing a Voice of Customer in new countries. Through detailed analysis of driving events and ongoing field monitoring, SWQOps delivers early warnings and vital insights to Product and Data Science teams.
- Automating Machine Learning Processes: Supporting the development of a comprehensive, automated machine learning framework for the Waymo Driver, which will be essential for scaling our technology and speeding up international expansion.
- Enhancing Engineering Efficiency: By managing performance evaluations, in-depth issue analysis, and data curation, SWQOps allows Waymo’s Engineering, SysEng, Simulation, and Data Science teams to concentrate on their core functions of improving the Waymo Driver.
- Workflow Development: Incubating impactful workflows and ensuring operational readiness for upcoming projects.
