The Exploration Company is building Nyx, a modular and reusable orbital vehicle. Nyx is designed for in-orbit refueling and cargo transport, with future plans to support human spaceflight.
Role overview
This Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) internship supports the development and testing of Nyx at the Munich site. The intern will work closely with engineers on Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) activities, contributing to hands-on projects and daily operations.
Main tasks
- Design MGSE tools, including 3D-printed parts, for use in test setups.
- Assist with procurement, assembly, testing, and commissioning of MGSEs.
- Support AIT activities across subsystems such as the demonstrator capsule.
- Draft technical procedures and documentation as needed.
- Help organize and maintain AIT facilities.
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Collaborate on MGSE design using CAD software (Siemens NX).
- Assist with sourcing and managing inventory for MGSE parts and tools.
- Independently build and test MGSEs with the engineering team.
- Contribute to the creation and revision of AIT procedures.
- Participate in AIT activities involving MGSEs.
- Maintain inventory records and organize storage for ground support equipment and components.
- Suggest and apply process improvements based on operational experience.
- Join off-site AIT activities as needed.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Motivated to support and collaborate with a growing team.
- Strong interest in aerospace technology and innovation.
