About the job
At Swarm Aero, we are revolutionizing aerial technology by developing the largest fleet of swarming UAVs and a highly adaptable network of swarming aircraft globally. Our mission is to rapidly introduce the first aircraft meticulously engineered for swarming operations, complemented by state-of-the-art Command & Control software designed to coordinate swarms of thousands of diverse autonomous assets, allowing human operators to achieve extraordinary outcomes.
Our team boasts a rich history of founding and successfully exiting multiple startups, negotiating defense contracts valued in the billions, and designing and constructing over 30 innovative aircraft, drawing upon aerospace expertise from industry leaders such as Scaled Composites, SpaceX, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin, and Boom Supersonic.
THE ROLE
We are in search of a skilled Avionics Integration Engineer to become an integral part of our dynamic engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will act as the technical bridge between airframe hardware, avionics, propulsion, and the software systems that facilitate autonomous swarming. You will ensure complete integration of all aircraft subsystems, overseeing the process from initial development to flight testing and operational deployment. This is a unique chance to influence the design of an unprecedented swarming aircraft platform.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead integration efforts between airframe, avionics, propulsion, payload, and Command & Control interfaces for swarming UAV systems.
- Define, document, and sustain interface control documents (ICDs) and integration specifications for all primary vehicle subsystems.
- Create and implement hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and vehicle-level integration test plans to validate subsystem functionality and interoperability.
- Collaborate closely with flight software, guidance, navigation and control (GNC), structures, and electrical teams to troubleshoot integration challenges and ensure cross-discipline compatibility.
- Oversee integration and verification activities from bench testing through to ground tests and first flight, diligently tracking issues to resolution.
- Assist with aircraft assembly, wiring harness integration, and sensor calibration during prototype construction phases.
- Establish and uphold integration standards, tools, and traceability frameworks aimed at supporting agile iteration and certification readiness.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers regarding integration processes and best practices.
- Coordinate with regulatory and airworthiness teams to guarantee integration strategies fulfill DoD and FAA certification requirements.
