Major League Baseball, together with the Buck O’Neil Professional Scouts and Coaches Association, is launching the sixth year of the MLB Scout and Coaching Development Program in Phoenix, Arizona. This initiative runs alongside the Arizona Fall League and focuses on developing aspiring scouts and coaches through hands-on experience and professional training.
Scout Development Program
The Scout Development Program is designed for those interested in scouting careers or roles where scouting expertise is valuable. Participants gain foundational skills and an inside look at front office and scouting department operations. The 2026 session is planned for October 11–20 in Phoenix, though dates may shift. This program runs during the Arizona Fall League. Individuals already employed by a Club are encouraged to pursue scout development within their own organizations.
Coaching Development Program
Entering its fifth year, the Coaching Development Program selects twelve aspiring coaches to enhance their coaching skills. The 2026 program is scheduled for October 11–26 in Phoenix. The experience includes:
- One week of hands-on coaching with a team during the Arizona Fall League, with opportunities to participate in additional Arizona Fall programming such as Bridge and Instructional Leagues.
- Virtual development sessions for all selected coaches prior to the in-person program.
Who Should Apply
- Individuals pursuing careers in scouting or baseball professions where scouting skills are relevant
- Former players and current collegiate coaches
- Current and former MLB and MiLB players
- Athletes from MLB Partner Leagues, including the American Association, Atlantic League, Frontier League, and Pioneer League
MLB welcomes applications from all eligible backgrounds listed above.
Support for Participants
Selected participants will receive travel, lodging, and a stipend to attend the in-person program in Phoenix.
