About the job
About Chalk
At Chalk, we are revolutionizing the data landscape to fuel the next generation of machine learning applications. Our innovative platform dismantles the complexities and delays that have historically hindered ML potential. By integrating Rust-speed performance with user-friendly tools, we empower developers to excel. Top-tier companies rely on Chalk for essential tasks such as preventing fraudulent credit card transactions, verifying identities, and optimizing clean energy usage. Recently, we secured a $50 million Series A funding round, spearheaded by Felicis.
About the Role
We are in search of a talented Product Designer to shape the interaction experience for engineers, data scientists, and ML practitioners using our web and CLI tools.
As a founding designer on our team, you will work in-office, full-time, and early in our journey—playing a pivotal role in defining our product, visual identity, interaction methodologies, and design standards from the ground up.
You will collaborate closely with Chalk’s founders, engineers, and customers to convert intricate data infrastructures and workflows into seamless, user-friendly interfaces. If you thrive on transforming complex backend power into intuitive frontend experiences and are motivated to deliver designs on a weekly basis, we would love to connect with you.
We welcome remote and hybrid work arrangements from our San Francisco, New York City, or Los Angeles offices.
Your Responsibilities
Engage directly with engineers and founders to explore the problem landscape, establish requirements, prototype solutions, and deliver polished experiences (note that we do not have product managers).
Take complete ownership of UI/UX, from initial concept to high-fidelity mockups and implementation.
Proactively collect feedback from peers and users (primarily engineers and data scientists) to validate designs and iterate swiftly.
Strike a balance between speed and refinement, prioritizing practical trade-offs to deliver quickly and learn effectively.
Contribute to establishing the design system: components, patterns, and principles that will evolve with the team.
Deliver designs ready for implementation within your first week.
Your Qualifications
5+ years of professional design experience.
A portfolio that highlights your successful projects.
Comfortable building user-centric designs for complex systems.
