About the job
Archer Aviation is an innovative aerospace company located in San Jose, California. We are on a mission to revolutionize sustainable air mobility through the design and manufacture of an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft capable of carrying four passengers with minimal noise emissions.
At Archer, we are driven by high aspirations and challenging problems. We believe that a diverse workforce enhances our intelligence, fosters better insights, and ultimately contributes to our collective success. We are committed to creating an equitable and inclusive environment that values our differences and celebrates every member of our team.
About the Role
We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Systems Engineer – Actuators to take the lead in designing, integrating, and validating high-performance electromechanical actuators for our prototype aircraft. This position necessitates a profound understanding of actuator system architecture, requirements development, and performance analysis, alongside multidisciplinary collaboration across electrical, controls, and thermal domains. As part of our prototype engineering team, you will be instrumental in laying the groundwork for our production engineering efforts.
What You’ll Do
Design
- Oversee the design and development of high-performance, flight-critical electromechanical actuation systems from initial concept to flight testing.
- Collaborate with suppliers to determine make vs. buy strategies.
- Conduct trade studies to enhance system architecture and reduce mass.
- Work alongside suppliers and peer design leads in actuator control, flight controls, GNC, power systems, airframe, and software to create an optimized integrated system for the aircraft.
- Develop and evaluate CAD models, drawings, and engineering specifications.
- Create and maintain actuator-system specifications and detailed component requirements.
- Establish and sustain system-level models to validate actuator performance.
Analysis & Validation
- Design test plans and develop test benches for component development and validation.
- Analyze test results and implement design enhancements based on findings.
- Act as the primary technical authority for diagnosing and resolving critical design and development challenges.
Leadership
- Guide the team in best practices and innovative approaches to actuator systems engineering.
