We are looking for a seasoned safety professional to collaborate with us in creating robust and efficient workplace safety programs tailored for our robotic construction systems at our headquarters in the East Bay. This is a part-time consulting position, blending onsite safety support with the development and validation of safety protocols.Key Responsibilities:Phase 1: Initial Safety System DevelopmentPerform an extensive risk assessment of our robotic construction systems, which include conveyor systems, autonomous robotic arms, pneumatic actuators, high-voltage systems, and material handling operations.Evaluate and enhance our existing safety infrastructure (E-stop zones, pressure pad systems, gate interlocks, fall protection, barriers/guarding).Design comprehensive safety protocols for multi-zone E-stop systems, lockout/tagout procedures for complex mechanical/electrical/pneumatic systems, and loading/unloading operations involving heavy equipment.Create Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) templates and develop task-based risk assessment methodologies for both routine and non-routine operations.Develop training materials and conduct initial safety training sessions for the team.Phase 2: Ongoing Safety Monitoring & Protocol Updates (~5 hrs/week)Conduct weekly onsite visits to observe operations, identify new hazards, and ensure compliance with established protocols.Revise safety protocols as systems evolve and new equipment or processes are introduced.Investigate incidents and near-misses, providing actionable recommendations to mitigate risks.Perform quarterly safety system audits and documentation evaluations.Assist the team with incident response and OSHA compliance inquiries.Review design modifications for safety implications prior to implementation.Qualifications:CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification with a minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing or industrial automation environments, preferably with robotic systems, automated manufacturing, or large-scale material handling.Strong understanding of machine guarding, lockout/tagout for intricate systems, OSHA standards, and safety protocols for industrial robots.In-depth knowledge of pinch points, crush hazards, automated machinery risks, and other functional safety considerations.
