Role overview Absurd Ventures is seeking a Character Technical Artist in Santa Monica to help bring a new IP to life. This role bridges the work of art, animation, and engineering teams, making sure character assets are both visually impressive and technically sound. The focus is on building optimized characters that fit project standards and integrate smoothly into the overall pipeline. What you will do Collaborate with Character Artists to confirm models meet technical, performance, and pipeline needs. Support and maintain the character pipeline, including modeling, rigging, skinning, deformation, and integration into the engine. Troubleshoot technical issues such as geometry, skinning, deformation, LODs, and performance concerns. Work with rigging and animation teams to prepare characters for animation and ensure proper gameplay functionality. Implement and validate character assets in Unreal Engine, checking materials, LODs, clothing, and physics setups. Develop tools, scripts, and workflows to streamline character production and maintain consistency. Create and update technical documentation for pipelines, workflows, and best practices. Identify risks related to character production, performance, or pipeline bottlenecks, and communicate these to Production and leadership. Offer technical guidance and mentorship to Character Artists and other content creators. Collaboration This position works closely with Character Artists, Riggers, Animators, and Engineers to address technical challenges and improve the visual quality and performance of characters within Unreal Engine.
