Within STR's Systems Development Division (SDD), we are on the lookout for a Hardware Section Manager. This individual will spearhead teams in the design, development, and deployment of systems that effectively meet complex customer requirements. Your role will primarily encompass two key areas: 1) providing functional leadership to an engineering team that spans multiple disciplines within a matrixed organization and 2) executing technical initiatives by leveraging your expertise in hardware development. In this position, you will collaborate with fellow researchers and engineers within interdisciplinary teams to interpret customer objectives and engineer innovative solutions. You may also guide junior engineers and lead development efforts in areas such as Radar and Electronic Warfare/Radio Frequency convergence. As a Functional Manager, you will oversee a team of engineers specializing in RF, Electrical, Mechanical (Electromechanical) Engineering, and Firmware. Your responsibilities will include recruiting and nurturing technical talent, ensuring proper staffing and execution within programs, and fostering collaboration across the organization to empower your team while remaining attuned to corporate activities and expectations. While you are not expected to be an expert in every domain within the section, success in this role will require you to effectively leverage, delegate, and enable individuals who possess specialized knowledge in unfamiliar areas. In your capacity as a technical lead, you will apply your expertise and experience to support and guide program execution. Your responsibilities may range from contributing individually to technical projects to serving as the Chief Engineer or Principal Investigator on high-visibility, technically complex initiatives. By synthesizing insights and knowledge gained through these primary responsibilities, you will be well-positioned to influence how the Engineering team meets and surpasses expectations for rigor and reputation, while also preparing for future challenges.
