Minimum Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering or a related discipline, coupled with 6+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. This role is subject to a background check and a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check. Preferred Qualifications:Possession of a Professional Engineering license in Illinois or the ability to obtain one within the first 6 months of employment. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.20 years of progressive experience in Water/Wastewater Facilities as an engineer and project manager. Experience with municipal projects. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including client interaction, public speaking, and persuasive abilities; excellent project financial management skills; and the capability to lead diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.

AECOM is looking for a Facilities Engineering Construction Project Manager to lead a critical five-year, $3.9 billion Capital Improvement Program (CIP) aimed at enhancing Chicago's water services. As a global leader in infrastructure consulting, AECOM collaborates with clients to tackle complex challenges and create lasting legacies. Our diverse clientele includes federal, state, municipal agencies, and private industry clients, engaged in planning, designing, and managing both large-scale and small-scale water, wastewater, and conveyance projects.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished engineer with significant experience in construction management, particularly within large municipal capital improvement programs utilizing the Design-Bid-Build delivery model. Experience in managing and collaborating on large joint venture projects, as well as prior involvement with water infrastructure projects, is strongly preferred.

The Facilities Engineering Construction Project Manager will act as the representative for the Chicago Department of Water Management (DWM), overseeing a variety of CIP projects.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as the Construction Manager, providing oversight on enhancements to major water system facilities, including purification plants, intake structures, pumping stations, reservoirs, hydraulic structures, and tunnels for raw and finished water supply.
  • Oversee the construction of multi-disciplinary improvements in water facilities, including electrical, mechanical, structural, and architectural components.
  • Manage the commissioning of electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Lead project teams and monitor compliance of consultants with contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate the hiring of resident engineers and field inspectors from on-call engineering firms to supervise project construction.
  • Collaborate with the Resident Engineer to ensure adherence to contract documents throughout project execution.
  • Manage all phases of construction projects from initiation to closeout.
  • Oversee project schedules and budgets.
  • Communicate project progress and issues with clients effectively.
  • Facilitate resolution of project issues and scope changes in collaboration with the design team and clients.
  • Work independently while receiving guidance on specific assignments and complex challenges.
  • Monitor and report on financial and completion status to clients.
  • Seek technical guidance for unusual or complex problems and obtain supervisory approval for proposed project plans.
  • Engage in occasional fieldwork related to design and construction projects.
