toloka-ai, working with Mindrift, offers freelance, project-based work for material scientists with strong Python skills. This remote role is not a permanent position and is based in Rome, Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Italy.
Role overview
This position centers on creating and validating materials engineering problems that reflect real engineering workflows. The work involves both problem design and solution development, with a focus on computational rigor and practical relevance.
What you will do
- Develop original materials engineering problems inspired by real-world research and practical applications
- Write and validate solutions in Python, using standard engineering libraries
- Apply numerical methods or iterative approaches to ensure computational accuracy
- Design tasks involving system design, optimization, and analysis
- Clearly document problem statements and provide verified, correct answers
Requirements
- Degree in Material Science or a closely related field
- Proficiency in Python for numerical validation; experience with MATLAB, R, C, SQL, Numpy, Pandas, SciPy, or similar tools is also acceptable
- At least 2 years in applied research or teaching
- Understanding of practical engineering constraints and approximations
- Strong written English skills at C1 level or higher

Time commitment

Compensation
