Mindrift offers project-based contract roles for professionals interested in AI development and research. This Freelance Research Physicist & AI Trainer position is remote and based in Virginia, United States. The work centers on supporting AI projects for technology companies by testing, evaluating, and improving AI systems. This is not a permanent role; assignments are structured as individual projects.
Role overview
This contract focuses on creating challenging physics problems for AI training and evaluation. Tasks may include:
- Developing original optics problems that reflect real-world research workflows
- Designing computationally intensive problems that require days or weeks to solve
- Building complex reasoning challenges in mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics
- Basing problems on authentic research scenarios or practical physics applications
- Documenting each problem clearly and providing verified solutions
Requirements
- Degree in Physics (theoretical, experimental, or computational) or a related discipline
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in applied research or teaching
- Experience with numerical simulation techniques
- Ability to design problems that mirror actual research workflows
- Creative approach to building problems across physics fields
- Understanding of physics modeling and approximation methods
- Strong written English skills (C1 level or above)
