Role overview
This freelance research physicist position centers on designing and validating computational physics challenges to support AI training. Each project brings a new set of tasks, often requiring a mix of creativity and technical expertise. Contributors create problems that reflect authentic research workflows and require Python programming solutions.
What you will do
- Design computational physics challenges based on real research scenarios
- Create problems that require Python solutions, using libraries such as Numpy, SciPy, or Sympy
- Ensure tasks are computationally intensive and not easily solvable by hand
- Develop advanced problems in mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics
- Validate solutions in Python with standard simulation libraries
- Document problem statements clearly and supply verified answers
Requirements
- Degree in Physics (theoretical, experimental, or computational) or a related field
- Proficiency in Python for numerical validation; familiarity with MATLAB, R, C, SQL, Numpy, Pandas, SciPy, or similar tools is a plus
- At least 2 years of experience in applied, research, or teaching roles
- Background in numerical simulation techniques
- Ability to design problems reflecting real-world research practices
- Creative problem-solving across multiple areas of physics
- Knowledge of modeling and approximation methods
- Strong written English skills (C1 level or higher)

Time commitment
During active project periods, expect to spend approximately 10–20 hours per week, depending on project needs. This is an estimate and not a guaranteed workload.
Compensation
Earn up to $29 per hour based on contribution and pace. Actual rates depend on project scope, complexity, and required expertise. Other projects on the platform may offer different rates.
Location
This remote freelance role is open to candidates based in Porto, Porto District, Portugal.
